Conference Theme

Excellence in Nutrition Practice: Science, Innovation and Impact.

The Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI), established under the Nutritionists and Dieticians Act 18 of 2007 (Cap 253B), is a parliamentary agency mandated to regulate and coordinate matters relating to nutrition and dietetics practice in Kenya. The Institute is responsible for setting and maintaining professional standards, regulating training and practice, and promoting research and public education on nutrition and dietetics.

In accordance with Section 6(e) of the Act, the Institute is mandated to conduct research and provide public education on nutrition and dietetics issues within Kenya and beyond. This mandate can best be realized through platforms that facilitate the dissemination of scientific knowledge, exchange of expertise, and sharing of emerging evidence, innovations, and best practices in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

Scientific conferences provide an important forum for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share research findings, exchange experiences, and deliberate on emerging issues affecting nutrition and dietetics practice. Such platforms contribute significantly to strengthening professional practice and promoting evidence-informed decision-making in nutrition programming, policy development, and service delivery.

Building on the success of previous scientific conferences, KNDI will convene its 6th Scientific Conference from 9th to 13th November 2026. This conference will bring together nutrition and dietetics professionals, researchers, food companies, private sectors, health system personnel, NGOs, policymakers, and stakeholders from Kenya and beyond to deliberate on emerging issues, innovations, and best practices in nutrition and dietetics.

2.0 / Rationale

Nutrition is a fundamental determinant of health and a key component in achieving sustainable development. Globally and nationally, countries continue to face multiple forms of malnutrition, including undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and the increasing prevalence of overweight, obesity, and diet-related non-communicable diseases.

Addressing these challenges requires strong and responsive nutrition systems supported by scientific evidence, skilled professionals, effective policies, and innovative approaches. Nutrition and dietetics professionals play a critical role in translating research findings into practical interventions that promote healthy diets, prevent nutrition-related diseases, and improve the overall health and well-being of populations.

Global health frameworks developed by institutions such as the World Health Organization emphasize the importance of evidence-based decision-making, competent health workforces, and integrated health systems in improving population health outcomes. Within this context, strengthening professional practice in nutrition and dietetics is essential to ensure that nutrition interventions are effective, ethical, and impactful.

The 6th Scientific Conference will therefore provide a platform for sharing scientific evidence, discussing emerging nutrition challenges, and showcasing innovative practices that strengthen nutrition and dietetics practice. The conference will also facilitate dialogue among stakeholders and promote collaboration among researchers, practitioners, policymakers, academic institutions, and development partners working to advance the nutrition agenda.
